| | EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing. It is a psychotherapeutic procedure that was originated and developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in the United States in 1987. EMDR is designed to treat traumatic or distressing memories and experiences and their psychological consequences. It is recommended by NICE the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. The procedure has mainly been used in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
